​​District 279 Foundation partners with Kidstop (ISD 279 school-aged care program) to coordinate this healthy and social opportunity to advocate that Reading is Fun! Funds raised from this family-friendly event are allocated to media centers (libraries) in ISD 279 – Osseo Area Schools to purchase learning resources. 


Proceeds from the Reading is Fun 5K provide unique activities and resources for students in Osseo Area Schools. For example, 

  • Fernbrook Elementary purchased video editing software for their weekly news show FBTV. FBTV has been a big hit with staff and students as it has allowed their school community to stay connected during a year of transition between learning environments.  
  • Fair Oaks Elementary hosted a virtual author visit for their Family Reading Night. Author and illustrator Matt Myers talked about the Ratso series.
  • Crest View and Garden City Elementary schools made their collection of books more culturally reflective of their school community and more appealing to students. Books that feature characters of color and books that were written by authors of color create interest among emerging readers.
