Reading is Fun 5K ~ August 1 – 12

District 279 Foundation partners with Kidstop (ISD 279 school-aged care program) to coordinate this healthy and social opportunity to advocate that Reading is Fun! Funds raised from this family-friendly virtual event will be allocated to media centers (library) in ISD 279 – Osseo Area Schools to purchase learning resources. 


The 11th annual Reading is Fun 5K will be a virtual event. Celebrate reading by creating a virtual team of your friends and family by running or walking your preferred route between August 1 – 12. 

Your Impact: Your participation in this event will help media centers provide unique activities and resources for students in Osseo Area Schools. 


Date and Time: The 11th annual Reading is Fun 5K will be a virtual event. Support media centers in Osseo Area Schools by running or walking your preferred route between August 1 – 12.


Registration: Register by July 1 for a guaranteed t-shirt. Registration closes on August 12.

  • $15 per individual (all ages)
  • $60 per family or team (6 max)


The Gear: Shirts/goodie bag packet pick up. 

  • Kidstop Summer Program Families: Packets will be available for pick up at your summer site on Tuesday, July 27.
  • Other participants: Your packet can be picked at the Osseo Area Schools Education Service Center (11200 93rd Avenue North, Maple Grove, MN 55369) on:
    • Saturday, July 24,  8 AM to Noon, or
    • Sunday, July 25, 11 AM to 3 PM


If you are unable to pick up your t-shirt and goodie bag during these designated times, contact the office at foundation@district279.org to make other arrangements. 

Event Location: Anywhere, this is a virtual event. You can build your own unique race day experience right at home. Run your own route whenever convenient for you and wherever you want! Be sure to practice safe social distancing while you are at it.

Submit Results: The race results will be unofficial, but if you report your time to us by email (foundation@district279.org) by August 15, we will post the list on our website. No winners will be declared. This is just to celebrate that Reading is Fun!

Virtual Cheers: Cheer on your fellow runners, take photos of yourself and companions running your event and post them on social media. Tag “D279F” and use the hashtag #ReadingIsFun5K
